The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, went to the Nuestra Señora de Fátima Church, in the municipality of Galván, where the remains of former senator Francisco Jiménez Reyes, who died Sunday after jumping from the second floor of his home, are on display.
The president expressed his condolences to Senator Melania Salvador, the ex-legislator’s husband, and their children.
Along with President Abinader are also the President of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, and Senators Faride Raful, Bautista Rojas, Ginette Bournigal and Antonio Marte.
The religious ceremony is officiated by the priests Yovanny Antonio Aquino Beras, Domingo Portalatín and Ángel Cuevas, with the assistance of the minister of the Catholic Church, Elvis Medina.
Jiménez Reyes was a legislator during the periods 1994-1998 and 1998-2002.
The remains of the former president of the Permanent Commission on the Environment and Natural Resources of the Senate have been veiled since Sunday at his residence, located in the municipality of Galván.
Despite having retired from the political arena, the former congressman for the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), remained active by participating in various social, business, religious and economic projects for his province.
