President Abinader and Petro meet prior to inauguration

Bogota, Colombia.- The Dominican president, Louis Abinader and the elected president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, held a meeting this Sunday morning, where they addressed several issues of interest to both nations, prior to Petro’s swearing-in this Sunday afternoon.

The meeting, which began at 11:40 in the morning, took place at the headquarters of the Colombian Foreign Ministry, the Dominican Presidency said in a statement.

He specifies that at the meeting the leaders discussed the strengthening of diplomatic, economic, cultural and tourism relations between the two countries.

Another issue addressed by the Dominican and Colombian leaders was about Haiti.

President Abinader took advantage of the meeting to formally invite Petro to the Ibero-American Summit to be held in Santo Domingo in March of next year.

Along with the Dominican president, Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and the Dominican ambassador to Colombia, Julio Cordero, were at the meeting.

President Petro was accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Álvaro Leyva, and Deputy Foreign Ministers Laura Gil and Francisco Coy.

Prior to the meeting with President Petro, the Dominican president held a meeting with outgoing President Iván Duque.
