The Minister of Foreign Relations, Ambassador Julio César Arriola, informed on Wednesday that the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, will travel to Brasilia on January 1 for the assumption of command of the President-elect of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The trip will be from Montevideo, Uruguay, where he will be taking a three-day break.

The Head of State will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Arriola and former President Nicanor Duarte Frutos, who was also expressly invited for the occasion.

Minister Arriola ruled out a bilateral meeting between Abdo Benítez and Lula Da Silva where the revision of Annex C of the Itaipu Treaty could eventually be discussed, because the agenda will be focused on the protocol acts of assumption of command.

The Foreign Minister indicated that he will seek a meeting with the designated foreign minister of Brazil, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, his former colleague at the United Nations, to plan some preparatory meetings related to the revision of Annex C, in a transparent manner, so that they can participate all the instances of Paraguay since it is of fundamental importance for the country.

Regarding the Treaty, he indicated that the revision of Annex C must start on August 13 of next year, but that it was always in the interest of President Mario Abdo Benítez to advance said preparatory meetings to reach the date with a structure of what topics to deal with. with the Federative Republic of Brazil.
