Who is Amalia Pulido?
The new head of the IEEM, Amalia Pulido, has a master’s degree and a doctorate in Political Science from the University of North Texas. She has served as professor-researcher of the Political Studies Division of the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE-Santa Fe), from August 2019 to date.
Among other positions, she is a postdoctoral researcher in the Big Data in Social Sciences project at the Colegio de México (Colmex).
She is also a pre-doctoral researcher at the Center For US-Mexican Studies, University of California-San Diego, and is a member of the IEEM Editorial Committee.
She is singled out for uncomfortable tweets
For Morena’s representative, César Hernández, the impartiality of the new electoral official is reflected in the “tweets” he wrote against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador:
“López Obrador faces the politician’s dilemma: on the one hand, his political ambition makes him yearn for an overwhelming electoral victory that confirms his popularity, legitimizes his project and extends his call for transformation at the local level,” says one of his tweets written on 3 May 2021.
For the electoral advisor, José Roberto Ruiz Saldaña, these are tweets “from a few yesterdays ago”, in this sense, he cited others that the academic wrote on July 3, 2018: “The clearest example of the crisis within the PRI and from the decomposition of their oligarchy is their defeat in Atlacomulco, either they are renewed or they disappear”.
He also showed one from 2017, where he highlighted: “Disenchanted PAN members will go with (José Antonio) Mead and Margarita (Zavala), PRD members angry with AMLO, the arrogance of (Ricardo) Anaya puts AMLO closer to a possible victory.”
For Ruiz Saldaña, these tweets show that Pulido has been a critical person and that in his freedom of expression he has been the issuer of different comments to different parties.
