MIAMI, United States.- The Presidency of Cuba created an account on the TikTok social network this Thursday and the controversy was served. Little less than an hour after the first publication, Cubans are on fire in almost all the social networks where shared the video.
The account on the new platform, which is called exactly the same as on Twitter or Facebook: Presidency of Cuba, until the time of writing this note had only 28 followers, 9 Likes and a video that has sparked dozens of criticisms and ridicule.
In the clip, lasting just a few seconds, the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel in the Council of State is shown walking towards several Castroist leaders, including Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and former spy Gerardo Hernández, whom he greeted, and little then go to a podium presumably to read a speech.
The content of the audiovisual material itself is not what has made the patience of Cubans skyrocket, but rather the disparate details between the lines of the presentation video, from the musical theme to the hypocrisy of using a social network to which Cubans on the island they cannot access if it is not with a VPN.
“When you think you’ve seen everything about this handpicked post… ‘Eye of the tiger’… Really?” said a netizen in reference to the chosen theme song for the material.
“Eye of the Tiger” is an American classic. The song, by rock band Survivor, was released as a single from their third album of the same name, and was also the theme song for the 1982 film Rocky III.
“I can believe the video, but the music thing can’t be true. No, no, that would be too much. Not even they could be that ridiculous. This has to be a meme,” wrote another Cuban.
“A big round of applause for the one who dressed that thing so coolly, for the one who taught him how to walk so streetwise and for the abnormal one who edited the video by putting Eye Off The Tiger. Sincerely thank you, SinCasa had not done more ridiculous than that so far, ”reads another comment.
Another criticism focused on the platform, since in Cuba it is illegal to use TikTok, and those who do must access it through a VPN.
“According to them using VPN is prohibited or illegal……….something they talked about once”, said a netizen. “Not even because Cuba is blocked from using TikTok. These people do not get tired of making a fool of themselves on networks, ”wrote another.
“But if TikTok is censored for Cuba and you have to do a thousand things to be able to use it. SinCasa pass me the VPN you use”. “The circle of interest of the fool and little friends of TikTok, also using capitalist music mmmmmm”, were other comments.
