The Federal Senate will analyze a proposal that authorizes the contracting of an international credit operation, with a guarantee from the Union, between the government of the state of Paraná and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to finance the Vida Nova Project, a state housing program, in the amount of US$ 150 million, equivalent to R$ 820 million at the current dollar exchange rate. The project was formally forwarded this Tuesday (13), in a dispatch from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, published in Official Gazette of the Union (DOU)
The housing program is aimed at serving families in situations of social vulnerability and registered with the Paraná Housing Company (Cohapar), especially those living in high-risk areas. According to the federal government, the initiative “consists of producing housing projects with complete urban infrastructure, ensuring access to essential services such as water supply, electricity, sewage, rainwater drainage, paving, sidewalks, curbs, public lighting, among other items necessary for decent housing, safety, well-being and development of the population.”
Loan for João Pessoa
In another order, Lula also proposed to the Senate the contracting of an external credit operation between the French Development Agency (AFD) and the city government of João Pessoa, to finance the Urban Mobility and Integrated and Sustainable Urban Development Program, known as João Pessoa Sustentável. In this case, the value of the operation is 44.3 million euros, which is approximately R$265 million at the current exchange rate of the European currency against the real.
The objective of the program, according to what was reported by the Presidency of the Republic, “is to reduce urban inequality, modernize urban planning instruments and the provision of services, in addition to modernizing public and fiscal administration with a management model based on results and restructuring the revenue area”.
One of the areas where the program operates is the Beira Rio Complex, made up of the communities of São Rafael, Santa Clara, Tito Silva, Miramar, Vila Tambauzinho, Brasília de Palha, Cafofo Liberdade and Padre Hildon Bandeira.
According to the federal government, the credit operations with the IDB and AFD are part of a strategy to foster international partnerships that promote the country’s sustainable and social development. “With them, Brazil strengthens relations with international financial institutions and ensures that projects are implemented with the necessary quality and support,” it said in a statement.
