Presentation of strikeouts: the steps to follow to file it against a table member

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) elected, on July 22, those who will have the mission of serving as board members during the elections on October 2. Said entity also pointed out that blemishes can be filed against elected citizens to exercise that function. How is this process carried out?

The October 2, 2022 will be carried out, in Peru, the Regional and Municipal Elections where citizens will once again go to the polls to elect their representatives for the coming years.

It should be noted that a total of 505,938 citizens they were selected as members of the table, among regulars and alternates. All this was done through a public draw.

As reported by the ONPE, the 93 decentralized offices of electoral processes selected three regular table members and three alternates for each of the 84,323 polling stations.

The electoral organism also maintained that any citizen can formulate the objections that he deems convenient against a polling station member.

WHY IS A CATCH FILED AGAINST A TABLE MEMBER?

The blemish against any member of the table is presented, as indicated by the ONPEwhen the appointment of that person could jeopardize the transparency of the electoral process that will take place in October 2022.

UNTIL WHEN CAN A CATCH AGAINST A TABLE MEMBER BE FILED?

The scratches that any citizen consider convenient can only be presented up to 3 business days after the results of the table members draw are published.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO SUBMIT A CATCH?

According to ONPE Any candidate who presents a cross-out must submit a written request addressed to the president of the Special Electoral Jury (JEE).

Another point to keep in mind is that supporting documents must be submitted.

Citizens should be aware that, according to the Organic Law of Elections, Law No. 26859you can request the cross-out of polling station members who have the following characteristics mentioned by ONPE:

• Candidates and representatives of political organizations.
• Officials and employees of the organizations that make up the Peruvian Electoral System.
• The members of the Public Ministry who, during election day, perform functions related to the prevention and investigation of electoral crimes.
• Officials from the Ombudsman’s Office who carry out electoral supervision.
• The political authorities.
• Authorities or representatives from popular election.
• The citizens who make up the steering committees of the political organizations registered in the National Elections Jury.
• The spouses and relatives within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity between the members of the same table.
• The spouses and relatives within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity of the candidates who reside in the scope of the jurisdiction in which they apply.
• Voters temporarily absent from the Republic, in accordance with the corresponding reports sent by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status.
• Active members of the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru who carry out activities related to the development of electoral processes.
• Members of the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru.

WHO CANNOT BE MEMBERS OF THE TABLE?

For this selection, citizens with impediments, as candidates Y representatives of political organizations, officials Y agency employees that make up the electoral system, and political authorities, among others.
