The recent presence of rainfall in the Cusco region has been considered positive for the agricultural sector, according to an evaluation carried out by the Regional Agriculture Management.
The climatic phenomenon is especially favorable after a period of sporadic rains, during August and part of September, which caused a 15% delay in the installation of crops.
The person responsible for Agricultural Risk Management and Budget Program 068, Dionel Vizcardo, highlighted that the rains They will allow the sowing process to be regularized, which will last until the month of December. As he explained, this scenario is encouraging for farmers, since it contributes to recovering the usual rhythm of agricultural campaigns.
According to the forecasts issued by the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) and the National Center for Estimation, Prevention and Reduction of Disaster Risk (Cenepred), the presence of moderate intensity rains is expected, which would be beneficial for crops.
In the event of adverse weather conditions or severe rainfall, the Agriculture sector plans to activate the care protocol through Budget Program 068. It includes the distribution of agricultural kits containing foliar fertilizer and insecticides, as has been done on previous occasions.
Likewise, it was reported that the current diagnosis projects a goal of 137,000 cultivated hectares for this agricultural campaign. To date, progress has been made with the installation of more than 30% of this surface, highlighting transitional crops such as corn and beans, in addition to the start of potato planting scheduled for this month.
