Premature ejaculation: specialist reveals that up to 70% of men suffer from it

Eyaculación precoz: especialista revela que hasta el 70 % de los hombres la padece

Cap Cana.– Premature ejaculation affects the majority of men worldwide, a reality from which men in the Dominican Republic do not escape.

This was stated by the Dominican urologist based in the United States, Dr. Pedro María, who explained that around 30% of men ejaculate in less than 30 seconds, when the time considered normal exceeds two minutes.

He also indicated that studies indicate that 70% of men ejaculate in less than 60 seconds and that, within that group, 5.4% ejaculate before penetration.

“It is a very prevalent condition in men and, even so, many do not manifest it unless the doctor asks them,” said the specialist during his presentation at the XXXVIII National Congress of Urology and the XIII International Congress of Urology, events that brought together more than 300 specialists to update knowledge through academic modules, panels and specialized courses.

Dr. María pointed out that premature ejaculation can have both psychological and biological causes, and that its appearance varies depending on age, although he emphasized that this condition should not occur at the age of 30.

The urologist, who offers specialized services at Montefiore Hospital in New York, warned that this problem can seriously affect relationships and marriages, as it is a highly stressful situation.

Likewise, he highlighted that many men avoid talking about the subject with their doctors or those around them for fear of embarrassment or being judged.

He recommended that those with this condition go to a urologist, in order to confirm the diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment. He also shared some recommendations for its management, such as spending more time during sexual intercourse and using a double condom to reduce the sensitivity of the glans, among others.

Dr. María completed his specialty in urology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, in Philadelphia, and has training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at the Montefiore Einstein Hospital.

During the XXXVIII National Congress of Urology and the XIII International Congress of Urology, held at the Cap Cana tourist complex, speakers from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, Guatemala, the United States and Cuba addressed the most recent advances in this medical specialty.

For her part, the president of the Dominican Society of Urology, Dr. Katia García, reported that the specialists exchanged surgical techniques, clinical experiences and international perspectives, offering a comprehensive vision of modern urology.

He explained that the academic program included modules of general urology, endourology and lithiasis, functional urology, oncology, andrology and sexuality, reconstructive urology, pediatric urology, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, in addition to a clinical research course.
