The preliminary draft of the Law “Public and State Policy for the inclusion of history, culture and the contributions of Afro-descendants in the educational curriculum”, was received this afternoon by the Minister of Education Maruja Gorday de Villalobos on behalf of the National Secretariat for the Development of Afro-Panamanians (SENADAP).
This draft consists of 16 articles in which the state recognizes Afro-descendants as one of the key social actors in the process of forming the Panamanian nation and as such, constitutes a group whose history, culture and contributions to the country must be incorporated. to the educational curriculum.
During the event, Gorday de Villalobos highlighted that the document seeks to reincorporate aspects related to black ethnicity and Afro-descendants into the curriculum as part of the country’s comprehensive development.
He stated that in the year 2021 the work begins with the implementation of three tables that have made significant progress.
For her part, Krishna Camarena, general director of the National Secretariat for the Development of Afro-Panamanians (SENADAP), said that a great historical step has been taken, a milestone in Panamanian history by presenting to the Minister of Education the preliminary draft of law that includes the history and contributions of Afro-descendants in the historical process of our country. He indicated that it is vital to visualize the contributions of Afro-Panamanians within the current educational curriculum, since they have experienced various historical processes that have made possible the construction of the nation we have today.
