A group of pregnant women protested this Thursday, September 29, in front of the Central Hospital Dr. Urquinaona in Maracaibo, Zulia state, to demand timely medical attention, as they denounced that they were denied admission due to lack of supplies.

The women stationed themselves in front of the health center, located on El Milagro avenue, showing their bellies and holding banners denouncing that mothers and their children are left to die at the entrances of hospitals.

The young Melina López denounced that to attend the birth of her son they demanded a list of supplies. “I got all the medicines and supplies that were on the list, and when I arrived they did not attend me because I lacked the sheets to open the history and be able to enter,” she denounced.

Aderlin Sierra, 28, showed the list of supplies that she was given to be able to attend her delivery. She estimated that she spends between 150 and 200 dollars. “Most of us don’t have that money. I had to go to the Mayor’s Office to ask for help, I’m waiting for them to call me, ”she indicated.

The protest was led by Carolina Leal, a community leader from the Santa Rosa de Agua sector. She denounced that three women she supported with some financial aid lost their babies this week due to lack of medical care.

“Yesterday -Wednesday 28- we buried a four-kilo baby who died inside her mother’s womb because they did not attend to her on time, she needed a caesarean section and they put her into labor. Today, during the protest, a young woman came out crying because her baby had no vital signs, she was 42 weeks pregnant and they did not want to do a cesarean section, now the baby died and she pooped inside her, “she denounced.

The women entered the emergency to demand help. The director of the Central Hospital of Maracaibo promised to provide greater collaboration to the parturients.
