The 17-year-old pregnant woman, shot yesterday (16) in Manguinhos, in the north of Rio, remains hospitalized at Miguel Couto Hospital, in Leblon, south of Rio. According to the Municipal Health Department (SMS) of Rio, the clinical condition of the teenager, who underwent surgery, is stable. The four-month pregnant woman is lucid and under observation in the ICU. The fetus is also being monitored and has a normal heartbeat. Initially, she was taken to the community’s Emergency Care Unit (UPA) to receive first aid, but as she needed more care, she was transferred to the municipal hospital unit.
The teenager was shot in the belly during a confrontation between police and criminals this Sunday morning (16). The Secretary of State for Military Police denied carrying out an operation in progress at the time the young woman was injured, but confirmed that teams from the Battalion of Actions with Dogs (BAC) were participating in a patrol in Jacarezinho, a community neighboring Manguinhos.
According to the secretariat, the military police officers who were at the event reported that a team was moving along Avenida dos Democráticos, at the time of the community where the young woman was injured, “when armed individuals fired when they saw the vehicle and there was a reaction. At the time of the incident, no injuries were found at the scene.”
The PM added that the battalion was informed after an injured person was admitted to the Manguinhos UPA yesterday morning, and that the incident was referred to the 21st DP.
