Zelaya was brought before the judge on Saturday, August 24, three days after being captured (August 21) in a residential area in the Villa Primero de Mayo area, in the capital of Santa Cruz.
In audience, Zelaya claimed his innocence and insisted that neither he nor his wife were involved in the kidnapping of Brazilian businessman Marcos Ferreira. In fact, those arrested in the case and accused of having participated in the crime were not known or friends of his.
“I never got to know him personally. (the Brazilian businessman), the one I know is Felipe (the businessman’s son) and I only saw him when I went to pick up my child from school, but I never had any problems with him,” Zelaya explained to the judge.
