Pre-selection of the Cuban team for the fifth World Baseball Classic announced

Béisbol, Cuba

MIAMI, United States. – Authorities of the Cuban Baseball Federation announced this Friday the list of 50 players for the fifth World Baseball Classicprecedent of the final list of 30 players that will be announced on February 7.

According to Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, the national commissioner for the discipline, the objective of the sports authorities was to achieve a competitive team “that represents Cuba as it deserves.”

“We took into account the players who are part of domestic tournaments (national series, elite league), those hired by the Cuban Federation abroad and others of Cuban origin who want to play with Cuba. In addition, we prioritize the technical needs that the team could have at a certain moment to summon one player or another ”, explained the official at a press conference.

“Our purpose is not to make a constellation of stars, but to form a set that works, that covers some technical gaps and responds to us,” he added.

According to Pérez Pardo, quoted by cubadebateplayers who committed serious indiscipline at a certain time, such as abandoning the team representing Cuba in an international event, were excluded.
