PRD announces the formation of a “Great Winning Alliance”

Judith Pena | January 19, 2023

Without specifying with which candidates or political groups, the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), has announced the formation of a “Great Winning Alliance” for the electoral tournament of May 2024.

Through a statement they ensure that this strategy is given to avoid “committing the mistakes of the past that allowed electoral defeat” in three electoral periods, by not building a strong alliance with other political groups that would lead them to victory.

“Right now, the country is in electoral mode. The PRD is preparing to participate in this tournament and make history, giving continuity to our government, winning the May 2024 election,” they specified.

According to the letter, this great alliance, protected by article 355 of the Electoral Code and literal s of article 33 of the PRD Statute, will guarantee the necessary spaces to give continuity to the management of the party.

“By materializing this Great Winning Alliance, we shielded the party from the mistakes we have made in three electoral periods in which the PRD has been out of government. This forces us to make a deep reflection on the need to open the corresponding spaces, according to the law and our statutes, that allow the participation of other political groups that share our objective of the country”, they stated when announcing that they have strategically reserved some positions of popular election, for those who join this alliance.

They stressed that those positions that have been reserved in the different circumscriptions and are not filled, will be submitted to a process of internal elections as provided in Article 208 of the PRD statute.
