The Progressive Party (PP) made official this Wednesday (27) its support for President Jair Bolsonaro’s candidacy for reelection in the October election. The vote was unanimous.
For the licensed president of the party and minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, President Jair Bolsonaro will not have a more committed acronym than the PP in his reelection. “You cannot compare the Bolsonaro government with any other government in history. None faced a pandemic and a crazy war like this [entre Rússia e Ucrânia]”, he said. For the minister, Bolsonaro’s administration had “decisive” and “fundamental” support from the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira.
In response to criticism for not having positioned himself in favor of the Brazilian electoral system, Arthur Lira argued that he has always been in favor of democracy and transparent elections.
“The Chamber of Deputies speaks when it is necessary to speak. Not when they want to make you talk. I gave more than 20 messages around the world and inside Brazil that I have always been in favor of democracy and transparent elections, and I trust the electoral system. There is no need for any public or political movement to make this present itself in a way that is always necessary. Institutions in Brazil are strong, they are perennial and they are not and will never be social networks. We cannot trivialize the words of the authorities in Brazil. They won’t do that with the Chamber of Deputies while I’m president,” said Lira.
On the other hand, deputy Ricardo Barros (PP), government leader in the Chamber and treasurer of the party, the objective of the acronym is focused on boosting the growth of the parliamentary bench.”[Queremos] to be the most outstanding party in its growth. The goal is to grow enough for us to be an indispensable force for governance,” he said.
Held in the Nereu Ramos auditorium of the Chamber of Deputies, the convention brought together deputies and senators from the Progressives party. The event was attended by President Jair Bolsonaro, the ministers of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, Communications, Fábio Faria, and the president of the Chamber, deputy Arthur Lira. The first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, also attended the event. Among the authorities were the governors of Acre, Gladson Cameli; Federal District, Ibanez Rocha (MDB-DF); Roraima, Antonio Denarium.
