The president of the Central Reserve Bank, Julio Velardeconfirms for the fourth consecutive year his leadership as the most influential person in economic matters, according to the Power Survey conducted by IPSOS for Semana Económica.

The president of the BCR is followed, with half the percentage, by the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista. And Luis Carranza, former president of the CAF, appears in third place.

Julio Velarde has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru since October 2006. In October 2021, he was ratified to continue presiding over the BCRP Board of Directors for a fourth consecutive term, until 2026.
He holds a master’s degree and doctoral studies in Economics from Brown University, United States; advanced studies in Economics from the Institute of World Economy in Kiel, Germany, and completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of the Pacific.
He was President of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four Countries on International Monetary Affairs and Development (G24) in the period 2018/2019 and Executive President of the Latin American Reserve Fund (FLAR) from 2004 to October 2006. He also held the positions of Director of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, from 1990 to 1992 and from 2001 to 2003, and Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of the Pacific, 2003.
He has received numerous international awards for his management at the BCRP. Among the various recognitions he has received, the international magazine The Banker, of the Financial Times publishing group, stands out, which distinguished him as Central Banker of the Americas of the Year 2020 and as Central Banker of the Year globally in 2015. In 2021 he also received the highest rating as a central banker according to Global Finance magazine.
