A tragic situation occurred this Sunday, November 3, in the municipality of San Martín, Cesar, when a sudden flood in the Torcoroma ravine swept away Angie Quintero Castilla, 25 years old, and her son Thiago Ochoa, 4 years old. They were both carried away by the current while they shared a day of family bathing.

The event occurred in the afternoon, when Angie Quintero and her family were enjoying a day of recreation in the waters of the stream. At the time of the emergency, the woman was accompanied by her partner and her two children, ages 9 and 4. According to reports, the sudden rise surprised the family; The man and the eldest daughter managed to get out of the water, but the mother and child were swept away by the force of the flow.

Immediately, the authorities were alerted and a search operation was deployed in which the Civil Defense, firefighters, the National Police and community volunteers participated. However, rescue efforts were temporarily interrupted due to the increase in flow, which forced operations to be suspended for safety reasons.

Bodies were found on the banks of the ravine

The search resumed hours later, and unfortunately, on the morning of holiday Monday, November 4, the lifeless bodies of Angie and Thiago were found on the banks of the creek, marking a painful end to this tragedy that has shocked the community. of San Martin.

Given what happened, the mayor of that municipality, Yan Navarro Pérez, decreed three days of mourning and suspended all cultural activities scheduled within the framework of local festivities. Likewise, the president called on the community to take extreme precautions during the rainy season.

“I extend the invitation to the entire community that this season we avoid pot walks, avoid getting close to rivers and streams due to the rainy season that we are experiencing throughout the country. Let us be aware of this difficult situation we are experiencing,” said Navarro Pérez in an emotional message.

The tragedy in San Martín highlights the importance of taking preventive measures in the face of sudden floods in rainy seasons, especially in rural areas where the risk of flooding and overflowing of rivers and streams is latent.
