Postpaid users will pay local rate for calls and data use in CAN countries from 2022

Postpaid users will pay local rate for calls and data use in CAN countries from 2022

Since January 1 of this year, the surcharge for the international roaming service for postpaid mobile lines was eliminated, so that Peruvian travelers who travel through member countries of the Andean Community (CAN) will save more than S / 70 million estimated the .

By virtue of the execution of Decision 854 adopted by the CAN, from 2022 local rates will be applied for users of postpaid mobile services who use calls, text messages (SMS) or data when they visit Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Peru. That is, they will have the same rate conditions as in the country of origin.

According to Osiptel projections, it is expected that more than 650,000 Peruvian citizens who move through these countries and more than one million citizens who live in border areas will benefit directly from the application of this measure, which helps to minimize the gap and raise the quality of life of citizens by reducing the costs of communication between these countries.

For the correct execution of the measure, postpaid users who choose to travel to any of the countries of the Andean Community must previously contact their operator to activate the service.

In this way, if you receive a call from any part of Peru, whether from a landline or mobile phone, during the stay in Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia, the operating company will respect the collection of this communication as a local call, according to the conditions of the contracted postpaid plan. In the case of data, the MB (megabytes) will be discounted from the plan as if it were in Peru.

Non-compliance with the correct execution of the measure by the operating companies will be considered as infractions and will activate control actions by Osiptel, as detailed in the norm that establishes the applicable sanctioning regime within the framework of Decision 854 of the CAN , approved through Board of Directors resolution No. 255-2021-CD / OSIPTEL.

The elimination of connection charges between countries of the Andean Community is an initiative that has been progressively implemented. In July 2020, voice and data connection charges were reduced by 90%. Thus, Peruvians accessed the lowest CAN data rate.
