A new public company, under the name Postal Services, must deliver all outstanding packages and letters. A platform was enabled to make inquiries.
As of November 15, 2021, the Public Postal Services Company of Ecuador (SPE), in coordination with Correos del Ecuador en Liquidación, began the process called postal transition.
Since that date, according to an official statement, SPE has received 245,905 SPU letters, and 402,000 packages, for distribution. In other words, the letters and packages that were not delivered by Correos del Ecuador are now the responsibility of the new public company.
In December 2021, the new public company obtained the authorizations and qualifications as Designated Postal Operator. Thus, from December 1
2021, according to its planning, Postal Services of Ecuador began the distribution and delivery of packages, through its own postal agencies in Quito and Guayaquil.
Currently, the platform has been enabled https://consultas.serviciopostal.gob.ec, in which citizens can verify in which postal agency their package is located.
In addition, to facilitate the search and speed up the delivery of parcels, SPE plans, during the first quarter of 2022, to launch the “Si Postal” commercial page.
On that page, users will be able to register and update their information, make online payments and schedule appointments to pick up their shipments.
Until the second quarter of this year, SPE plans to open postal agencies in Santo Domingo, Cuenca, Tena, Riobamba and Galapagos, for the admission and delivery of parcels nationally and internationally.
Currently, the new public company already has 50 employees on the payroll; but it has not explained how it will deliver the packages and letters that were left behind in the warehouses of Correos del Ecuador from previous years. What is being distributed now would be the most recent parcels, but there are pending from 2017.
Through a statement, SPE invited citizens to stay informed through its official Twitter account @ServPostalEc about the implementation process of the postal service in the country. (JS)
