The ICT Ministry reported that the Communications Emergency Plan was activated and that community, commercial and public service radio stations were asked to be attentive to any eventuality, within the framework of the orange alert for the probable eruption of the Nevado del Ruíz volcano, declared by the Colombian Geological Service and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management due to the seismic activity of the last few hours.

“Given the increase in the activity of the Nevado del Ruíz volcano, we have made the decision to implement the Emergency Communications Plan, as a preventive measure so that the authorities have a timely and adequate communication with the public and thus reduce the risks in communities that may be vulnerable to the volcano’s activity,” said Sandra Urrutia, ICT minister.
In this sense, the broadcasters They must give priority to the authorities in the transmission of free and timely communications related to the actions of prevention and attention to the situation, For this reason, they must generate and broadcast content, coordinated by the UNGRD, related to risk reduction and prevention, effective response in case of disaster, early warning services and public information and communications from the authorities.
