United States authorities would have incurred Civil rights violations
Of two young Mexicans who were admitted to the Migration Detention Center known as Alcatraz de los Caimanes in Florida, the consul of Mexico in Orlando, Juan Sabines yesterday warned.
The above because the aforementioned prison It does not belong
To the federal government, that is, at the United States Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE), but to the state of Florida, so until last night the countrymen did not have the case number that requires a migratory arrest, which prevented access to an adequate defense and a fair trial
.
The consular official said – via social networks – that this conclusion was warned by lawyer Andrea Reyes, which is part of the legal assistance program for Mexican people (Pale) and represents both nationals. The expert was assigned to the case by the consulate in Orlando, after President Claudia Sheinbaum instructed to support young people.
These are brothers Carlos and Alejandro González. The first, 26, was arrested on July 7 on a Florida highway for a minor transit infraction.
However, although it has a valid tourist visa that allows admission to the United States, a migratory retention was turned and, without any explanation, it was sent to Alcatraz de los Caimanes.
His case was disseminated a couple of days ago by a television station with a lot of audience among the Hispanic community in that country, where his father, Martín, denounced in an interview that he was kept totally isolated and incommunicado.
Faced with that situation, Alejandro, who is married to an American citizen, went to the Migration Detention Center to ask for information from his brother; However, it was also apprehended at that moment and retained in the same prison, diplomatic sources reported.
In his network X account, Consul Juan Sabines stressed: Given this situation, we demand the immediate access of your lawyer and, for the observed conditions, I will suggest to the Mexican authorities to consider the issuance of a travel alert for Mexican tourists to Orlando
.
He informed that yesterday he received the father of the two young people, who confirmed that Carlos was on vacation with a tourist visa in force after his mother’s death; While Alejandro is married to an American.
Hours later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported in its X account that Mexico’s consulates in Orlando and Miami – the prison corresponds to the jurisdiction of this second representation – They are aware of the case and are providing consular assistance and protection
.
The Foreign Ministry added: A pale lawyer is supporting both cases, while consulates maintain permanent communication with family
