Portugal defeated Switzerland 4-0 in Lisbon this Sunday during the second day of the nation leagueis, in a game in which Cristiano Ronaldo shone scoring two goals.
The game started with an early goal by Haris Seferovic, annulled by the VAR for a handball (6) and after that warning from the Swiss, Portugal went on the attack.
Betis player William Carvalho (15) took advantage of Gregor Kobel’s save after a Ronaldo foul to open the scoring. CR7 himself scored the second goal of the match after receiving a pass from Diogo Jota (35) in the area.
His second goal would come a few minutes later, when a Jota shot was blocked by Kobel but it was left to the Manchester United star’s pleasure to score the third goal of the game (39). Already in the second half, Joao Cancelo closed the scoring after receiving a deep pass from his teammate at Manchester City Bernardo Silva (68).
Ronaldo scored a third goal that would have served him to sign a hat-trick but that was annulled by the VAR for offside in the play prior to the goal.
“We scored a lot of goals, created a lot of chances and played good football. There are things to improve and we will focus on that, but I think it was an excellent performance”, analyzed the Portuguese player Rubén Neves to RTP after the game.
This result, added to the tie between the Czech Republic and Spain (2-2), allows the Seleçao to storm first place, with the same points as the Czechs (4) but better goal difference.
The Swiss for their part, after starting the first two days with defeats, occupy the last position of the key.
On the next day, which will be played on Thursday (18:45 GMT), Portugal will host the Czech Republic in a match in which the leadership of the group is at stake while Switzerland will host Spain to try to get out of last place.
