After learning of the sentence handed down on Wednesday by a conscientious jury, which declared innocent four ex-military accused of the disappearance of the trade union leader, Heliodoro Portugal, Patria Portugal and his son, Román, revealed that they are waiting for the Court Inter-American Court of Human Rights pronounces.
“The Inter-American Court is still following up on the sentence and in the sentence it was stipulated that justice had to be done to Heliodoro Portugal, we will see what the Court says because we already have this international sentence,” added the former Ombudsman.
According to Patria Portugal, he does not blame the conscientious jury that participated in the hearing of the case, since he considered that “they did what they believed was correct and it is good, but they have not had an education of what did happen.”
He explained that the four former soldiers pleaded not guilty and did not want to speak during the trial. “Even a hearing that had to be public, they did not even accept my daughter to enter, only Román, my son,” she sentenced.
