The Government of Portugal expressed this Sunday its rejection of the attack perpetrated against the Venezuelan consulate in Lisbon, which occurred recently. Local media, citing police sources, reported that a Molotov cocktail was thrown against the facade of the Venezuelan consulate when it was closed.

“The inviolability of diplomatic missions must be respected in all cases,” the official statement stressed.

Although the attack did not cause injuries, it did cause visible material damage, as seen in images shared by the Venezuelan foreign minister. Yván Gil, where part of the blackened façade can be seen.

In response to the incident, The Portuguese Government ordered to immediately reinforce security at the diplomatic headquarters and launched an investigation to clarify the facts and find those responsible.

For his part, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil blamed “fascism” for the attack and described it as an irrational attempt to destabilize the Venezuelan political process.
