The Municipal Department of Education of Porto Alegre resumed activities on Monday (19) in the last seven schools that were still without classes since they were hit by the flood in May of this year. In total, 650 students will resume activities, thus closing 100% of the 4,147 students in the schools that were flooded.
The units are now operating in alternative spaces that were leased by the department. Of the 14 municipal schools affected by the flood, 12 are undergoing recovery work and two have been cleaned and recovered: the Ilha da Pintada Municipal School of Early Childhood Education (Emei) and the Vereador Antônio Giudice Municipal School of Elementary Education (Emef).
According to the city hall, so far, R$5 million has been invested in the renovation of schools.
