Last Monday, May 9, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security proposed to the Single Port Union a special unemployment insurance for one year for workers who are laid off, which is estimated at 150 employees, which represents a subsidy of 70% of the active salary. The Secretary of State also reported that Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP) expressed its commitment to incorporate 77 jobs within a year, and that it will take as a priority those who have experience in port activity. In the same sense, the National Administration of Ports (ANP) promised that in a year 50 workers will be incorporated, with priority in those who have disassociated themselves from Montecon.
For its part, the Montecon company had announced that it would postpone the completion of the dismissals for a period of 90 days.
Rejection
However, SUPRA rejected the proposal and announced the stoppage of activity in all ports in the interior, which became effective on Wednesday the 11th.
In this regard, the president of the Montecon union, Martín García, told the PIT-CNT Portal that “the government’s proposal is far from considering all the points” that the workers have raised, especially with regard to the Job positions.
“The only thing that arises from what is proposed is to try to stretch the decision, but it does not present a real solution that guarantees jobs. This is a country issue, we warn you, what is at stake here not only hits the workers of Montecon, but affects the entire country and we will pay the consequences until 2081, “said the union leader.
