Port operators will access United Nations training

The Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, participated this Thursday 27 in the presentation of the Modern Port Management course, a training instance for the port community supported by the United Nations. “It is important that the Uruguayans involved in port operations have top-level knowledge,” he said. Classes will be held from 2023 at the Navigation Center.

Also attending the event were the highest authorities of the National Ports Administration (ANP), Juan Curbelo; the National Logistics Institute (Inalog), Álvaro Olazábal, and the Navigation Center, Mónica Ageitos.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development integrated the Port Management Program and will develop the Modern Port Management course, aimed at training personnel in the field.

In turn, Inalog signed an agreement with the Navigation Center to implement training in Uruguay. The objective is to transmit knowledge and analysis tools for management and introduce different aspects of the technical, economic, commercial, operational and financial field.

Olaizola pointed out that the training is world-class, that it is provided in different countries, and that it will take place in Uruguay, for the first time, to train in comprehensive management of port terminals. “They are going to bring us the comparative experience of the main ports in the world, to bring operations closer to our main port terminals,” he said.

In addition, he added that the training is offered in a context of growth, due to ongoing investments in infrastructure and improvement of services in the port of Montevideo. In this sense, he affirmed that it is necessary to complement it with the training of all those who participate in the operation.

“It is important that Uruguayans involved in port operations have top-level knowledge to manage and rise to the demanding challenges in terms of services,” he concluded.

Curbelo, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of the course as an instruction and knowledge tool, in a scenario in which the shipping activity requires efficiency and training. “The entire community must be united and convinced of the goal we have set for ourselves for the permanent development of our ports,” he said.
