The first cargo that the port of Chancay will receive, to be inaugurated on November 14, will be made up of electric cars from Shanghai (China).
“I understand that in the first load electric cars will come from Shanghai,” said the Institutional Relations Manager of Cosco Shipping Ports, Mario de las Casas, to Agencia Andina.
He reiterated that the port of Chancay will be inaugurated on November 14 with four docks in operation, having a “white start” of two months and then it will begin 100% commercial operation.
“The capacity in this first stage is to handle one million containers and six million bulk cargo or oversized cargo,” he indicated.
Mario de las Casas highlighted that the port of Chancay will turn Peru into the regional hub for maritime trade towards Asia, which represents more than 40% of Peruvian trade with the world.
He noted that the new port terminal will reduce the time to transport products from Peru to Asia by approximately 10 days (from 35 to 25 days).
“Thus, Peruvian products will arrive at more competitive prices to their destination markets, and Peruvian consumers will be able to access products at a lower price,” he said.
The executive of Cosco Shipping Ports said that the port of Chancay will turn Peru into Brazil’s natural gateway to Asia through the Pacific.
“Chancay will be the first Peruvian port with the capacity to receive ships of 18,000 containers (TEU), the largest in the world, fully loaded,” he stated.
“The cranes and vehicles at the port of Chancay will be electric and unmanned with a centralized management system, which guarantees a carbon neutral operation,” he added.
