Port of Chancay: Peru made its first official export through megaport

Cargamento de arándanos para Shangai

Less than a week after being officially inaugurated in a ceremony presided over by President Dina Boluarte and her Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, during the Asia Pacific APEC Economic Cooperation Forum, Peru made its first official export through the Chancay Megaport.

A shipment of blueberries, one of the country’s main agricultural export products, was shipped to the city of Shanghai.

The shipment was made by Qali, a member company of Agrícola Cerro Prieto, as announced by the latter firm through its social media accounts.

Cerro Prieto specified that the value of the cargo exceeds more than four times the price of a car imported from China, which reaffirms Peru as a quality benchmark in international markets.

“Our superior quality blueberries travel to Shanghai through the Chancay Megaport, carrying with them the efforts of our people and the benefits of our land,” the agricultural company said on Facebook and LinkedIn.

This achievement allows us to renew the purpose of “feeding the world for a better life,” according to the aforementioned agro-export company.

PERUVIAN BLUEBERRIES FOR THE WORLD

Cerro Prieto is a company dedicated to the production, packaging and marketing of agricultural products such as green asparagus, avocados and blueberries. It operates on more than 4,500 hectares of virgin lands ideal for agriculture in the north of the country.

In relation to blueberries, it has three million plants of this fruit distributed over 530 hectares of virgin land. Its main international destinations are North America, Europe and Asia, according to Andina.

According to the latest projection by the Association of Blueberry Producers and Exporters of Peru (Proarándanos) in September, Peruvian exports of fresh blueberries would reach a total volume of 292,138 tons for the 2024-2025 campaign.

In 2023, Peru exported 207,000 tons of blueberries worth 1,676 million dollars to 42 countries, among which the United States stands out (57% of the value of exports), followed by the Netherlands (21%), China (8%). and England (5%).

Likewise, Peru has been considered the world’s leading exporter of blueberries for five consecutive years, above the United States, Canada, Spain and Morocco.
