The Association of Porongo Carnival Troupes reported, through a statement, the determination to suspend all the activities of the Shrovetide as a sign of “repudiation of the abuses of the Government, the judiciary and the police against the people of Santa Cruz”.

“The ACCP, in general Assembly, make the determination of lay off all the activities of the carnival agenda, such as the corso and carnavalito 2023 ”, expresses the statement that circulated on social networks.

In the text, the carnival fans point out that Porongo was part of the 21-day strike of 2019 for the fraud committed in the national elections, which the Government “uses to persecute and intimidate the Santa Cruz people.”

Finally, they state that as long as there are political prisoners there is no democracy or freedom, and then there is nothing to celebrate.
