A total of 500 quintals of feed for pigs were supplied to producers in La Villa de Los Santos, by the authorities of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), in support of workers in the pig sector, who were affected by the floods in the province from Los Santos.
During the delivery of these aids, today in the morning, Avelino Ureña, National Director of Livestock, the Regional Directors of MIDA in the provinces of Los Santos, Erick Ballesteros and Santos Mendoza de Herrera, auditors and staff of the agricultural entity participated. .
“The guidelines that have been issued by the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and Minister Valderrama continue to be complied with, in helping producers, because they work 24 hours a day, to facilitate technical assistance with veterinarians, engineers agronomists and zootechnicians, who will be available”; Ballesteros said
He added that with the delivery of these foods, a quick response is given to 14 producers of the La Porqueriza community, located in the village of La Villa de Los Santos, which was one of the hardest hit by the intense rains that caused some loss of animals. .
He expressed that at this moment the evaluations are continuing in the field, because pigs are still appearing from the mountains and due to this, an official figure cannot be released, until the exact number of the producers who were affected.
For his part, Mendoza said that in Herrera there were some agricultural damages in the crops of the production of corn and beans in the highlands, but the evaluations continue because in some areas the arrival of that product is difficult, but there are no losses. pig
Meanwhile Juan Guevara, president of the Association of United Pig Farmers of Panama (APUP), said that products such as antibiotics, vitamin supplements, B complex, among others, have been provided for the animals that have been rescued from the pens and help them to counteract their stress, prevent them from having respiratory and digestive diseases.
“For our organization, the management and the contact that has been made since November 9 with the Minister of Agricultural Development, Valderrama, has been satisfactory, because he has been supportive and we can say that we have an allied government since the beginning of his administration. , we have felt the opportune coexistence, legitimacy and efficiency with the country’s producers”, he stated.
