The population of Machupicchu, together with the District’s Interests Defense Front and other representative organizations, decided to paralyze from 00:00 hours today, Friday, August 12, all their activities in protest at the breach of commitments agreed with the Government.
According to RPP Noticias, on July 28 they resolved with the Executive Power that 1,000 tickets would be sold to enter the Llaqta to national and foreign visitors in the same city, which would allow them to reactivate their economy.
According to David Moreno, president of the Machupicchu Defense Front, citizens decided not to open their businesses today and are organizing in the district’s main square. to abide by what they have called a “dry” strike in which they stop carrying out all their activities.
Along these lines, he pointed out that they suggested to the railway companies and also to the vehicular companies to take precautions because they do not guarantee that the traffic is fluid because they could block the tracks.
“So far we have not received a response from the Minister of Culture, there are 1,500 tourists who are again stranded in Machupicchu Pueblo, They decided not to sell the tickets without any communication in advance”, questioned David Moreno.
What they ask for to solve this problem is the presence of government representatives, including the Minister of Culture, Betssy Chavez, and the head of the Ministerial Cabinet, Aníbal Torres.
The aforementioned media detailed that a meeting between the population and the authorities has been scheduled for 8 am this Friday. However, the head of the Mincul has ruled out her presence due to other commitments that she must attend to in her busy schedule.
What agreements did you reach on July 28?
“There has been a commitment from Minister Alejandro Salas, former Minister of Culture, to respect the 5,044 tickets to enter the Llaqta, which is currently unknown. Also, it has been agreed that 1,000 tickets will be sold here, in the district capital which is also unknown since yesterday. That has pushed us, all of us who live from tourism, to enter this measure of force”explained the president of the Machupicchu Defense Front.
What are your demands?
Through a statement, the Machupicchu community shared a series of demands in order to lift the strike.
“We demand the sale of tickets at the Mincul Machupicchu offices of 50% of its totality in person and 1,000 from one day to the next. to reactivate our economies under ministerial resolution”it reads.
Also, they ask that the increase in load to Llaqta from 4,044 entrances to 5,044 entrances is fulfilled supported under a ministerial resolution because they consider that this capacity will not only reactivate the city and Cusco, but the entire region and the country.
