Population and housing census will be carried out in the last quarter of this year and will last two months

The director of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) of the Comptroller General of the Republic, Samuel Moreno, revealed that there is already an established date for carrying out the population and housing census that had been scheduled for more than a year and could not be carried out due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are going to carry out the census in the last quarter of this year, 2022. It was difficult to have the resources, but it was possible with a negotiation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance,” he specified.

He also stressed that “the census that we had been carrying out since 1940 was for a single day, now we are going to carry it out in two months, where Saturdays and Sundays are the most important days, because the family will be there.”

For this national census, 8,650 mobile capture devices will be used where the questionnaire, including the workload of the enumerators, will be defined on this device. “We are going to use paper, but it is going to be very minimal at the national level. Each enumerator is going to have their own workload,” he said.

Moreno indicated that 7,000 enumerators and 2,000 supervisors are needed. The field work will be carried out by 10,000 people. A platform for registration was opened and more than 82 thousand people were taken.
