Popular Foundation and the Santo Domingo Water Fund renewed a collaboration agreement.

The Popular Foundation and the Santo Domingo Water Fund renewed their collaboration agreement, through which the Grupo Popular corporate foundation will increase its contributions to preserve the upper part of the Ozama river basin, which due to its extension and scope is an important guarantee for the sustainability of the country.

The new agreement includes the planting of various plant species that will ecologically strengthen 14 new hectares and will maintain another 32 in the El Llano area, La Gina, Yamasá municipality, Monte Plata province.

According to a statement, these trees will favor environmental management, social and economic sustainability of families residing in the project area, thereby helping to ensure water security in the Santo Domingo province.

For this new stage of the alliance, Fundación Popular will allocate an amount of RD$2.5 million, in addition to joining as a member of the Communications Committee of the Santo Domingo Water Fund, with the purpose of supporting the Board of Directors to increase awareness about the need to preserve this important resource.

“This vision of sustainable progress in the medium and long term is what we share with the institutions present today, because that is the path to human development in balance with our habitat,” said the bank executive.

Meanwhile, Roberto Herrera, president of the Board of Directors of the Santo Domingo Water Fund, expressed his satisfaction with the renewal of this commitment.

“Ensuring the restoration and conservation of ecosystems in the hydrographic basins that supply water to the city of Santo Domingo is part of the mission of the Santo Domingo Water Fund,” said the entity’s president.

“With this agreement, we continue with the ecological restoration work of the Ozama River Basin, which consists of supporting the recovery of the ecosystem that has been degraded, promoting specific activities that help recover certain desired functions or structures in the medium term,” he continued. saying.

The Popular Foundation joined the Water Fund in 2017 with the aim of contributing to improving the health of water-producing ecosystems through their restoration, reduction of soil loss and preservation of biological diversity.
