The bench of People’s Renewal announced the presentation of the candidacy of the legislator Gladys Echaíz for the presidency of the Board of Directors of Congress in the period 2022-2023.
In a press conference, where members of the parliamentary group of Avanza País participated, the spokesman for Renovación Popular, Jorge Montoya, reported that the agreement was adopted this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Echaíz indicated that he decided to respond to the request of social organizations, congressmen and their constituents, after taking a “necessary reflection”.
“After a pause that was taken in the Renewal bench and the necessary reflection to make such an important decision, such as running for the Board of Directors of Congress, a basic and elementary institution in our country and in every democratic state, and having received the recommendations and requests not only from our voters, but from civil organizations, groups and of all kinds, and even from Democratic colleagues, I decided to accept the petition and apply for the Board of Directors of the Congress of the Republic “he expressed.
“We are moved by the commitment we have with the country to work and put aside any kind of effort, give everything we have, especially in such difficult times that the country is experiencing. We need to work together to recover credibility, peace and bring calm to the country”he added.
Echaíz indicated that his list will be made up of congressmen from all factions and invited other parliamentary groups to join his candidacy to consolidate the “rule of law, democracy and our freedom”.
“The doors are open, we invite all Democratic colleagues, the Democratic caucuses, all those who seek the recovery and consolidation of our rule of law, our democracy, our freedom and everything that demands recovering the difficult situation in where our country is”he underlined.

The parliamentarian had also pointed out that his brand-new bench colleague has thanked the support he received from those who considered him a good option to preside over Parliament in the next period and in the elections that will take place on July 26.
“The arguments (for not presenting a candidate) is that those who are on the lists and those who are running for the Board of Directors do not agree with our principles and values. We do not have the same ideological bond and we highly value the values that we respect”assured Montoya when asked about the reasons for the decline of Renovación Popular to tempt a position at the head of Congress.
