Popular Party will hold Extraordinary Congress in March

With a view to the May 2024 elections, the Popular Party (PP) is scheduled to hold an Extraordinary Congress next March, which will address the formation of the secretariat for persons with disabilities and violence against women, which are recommendations of the Electoral Tribunal (TE), after the reforms to the Electoral Code.

This was stated by the president of the collective, Daniel Brea, after assuring that they are warming up for the 2024 elections.

To reach the goal in the elections, Brea does not rule out political alliances, since he stressed that it is proven that in Panama no political party, large or small, wins only the elections.

He indicated that this week he held a meeting with four presidents of political parties: Alianza, País, CD and Panameñismo.

During this meeting -he said- no agreement or alliances were finalized; however, they talked about politics and the social and economic situation that the country is going through.

I add that they have also met with two former presidents of the Republic: Ricardo Martinelli, president of the Realizando Metas (RM) party, and Martín Torrijos.

He said that if an alliance is made, it will have to pass the scrutiny of the bases of the PP and the 500 delegates that make up the National Congress, decide which party or alliance we will support for the May 2024 elections. “We are a party with few adherents, but with a great militancy, which has seated three presidents in the Presidency”.

Asked about what figure the PP is looking for, Brea pointed out that it has to be a candidate who is similar to the ideology of our party: humanist, who fights corruption and who loves Panama and commits at the negotiating table that he will keep his word. . “You have to look for people who want to contribute so that Panama can move forward, without the famous what’s up for me.”

Along the same lines, he added that the PP has been strengthened internally and that it is looking for candidates with the ability and will to lead this country in the four popularly elected positions: president, mayor, deputy and representative of the corregimiento.

He mentioned that in the ranks of the PP there are valuable figures such as: former deputy Juan Carlos Arango, the former candidate for mayor of the San Miguelito district, Jacqueline Hurtado and the vice president of the PP in the province of Panama, Luis Díaz, who have shown interest. to participate in the next elections.

The PP has been an important group in the historical and political evolution of this country, because “we have always been valued to contribute those votes that we have given to three post-invasion presidents,” he pointed out.
