After Pope Francis was admitted to the Gemelli hospital in Rome yesterday for a respiratory infection, this Thursday the Vatican reported that he could be discharged in the coming days.
The statement by Matteo Bruni, the Vatican’s press officer, revealed that his “clinical picture is progressively improving and he continues with his planned treatment.”
The statement also says that this morning, after breakfast, the Pope read some newspapers and resumed work.
Before lunch, he gathered in prayer in a private chapel at the hospital and received the Eucharist.
Other international reports indicate that the possible respiratory condition could be bronchitis and that it is being treated favorably.
