Pope Francis prayed on Sunday morning (11) for the families and victims of the plane crash that occurred on Friday afternoon (9) in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo. The crash of the Voepass Linhas Aéreas plane killed 62 people, including 58 passengers and four crew members on board flight 2283, which had Guarulhos International Airport (SP) as its final destination.
“Let us also pray for the victims of the tragic plane crash that occurred in Brazil,” Pope Francis told the crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square during the traditional Sunday (11) blessing in Vatican City.
In note released todaythe Vatican highlighted, based on information from the company that operated the aircraft, that among the victims there were four people with dual citizenship: three from Venezuela and one citizen of Portugal.
The Vatican also recalled that this accident was the most serious in the country since the one in 2007. At the time, the TAM Linhas Aéreas aircraft was unable to land on the runway at Congonhas Airport (SP) and exploded when it hit the TAM Express building. In this accident, 199 people died.
Investigations
The two black boxes from the Voepass plane, containing voice and data recordings from flight 2283, undergo technical analysis from the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), after being recovered from the crash site, the Recanto Florido residential condominium, in Vinhedo.
In a press conference in the city of São Paulo, this Sunday, the head of Cenipa, Air Brigadier Marcelo Moreno, confirmed that the voice and data contents of the two recorders are fully preserved and were accessed by the agency’s technical team, which will continue the investigations.
