Pope Francis spent a “rest night” in a hospital to treat him a “worsening of his bronchitis,” said the Vatican on Saturday.
Matteo Bruni, director of the press office of the Holy See, told journalists that Francisco, 88, “slept well” after being admitted to the Agostino Gemelli hospital in Rome on Friday.
Bruni said he had breakfast and read newspapers while continuing with his pharmacological treatment and medical tests. Pope’s fever has not worsened, he said.
On Friday he celebrated hearings in the Vatican before his hospitalization, even with the Prime Minister of Slovakia and with Mark Thompson, executive director of CNN.

During the meeting, the Pope was mentally alert, but had difficulty speaking for prolonged periods due to respiratory difficulties, CNN reported.
The audience of the Jubilee de la Esperanza scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
The Holy Mass for the Jubilee of the Artists and the world of Sunday’s culture will be chaired by Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Prefect of Dicastery for Culture and Education.
The meeting with the artists, initially planned for Monday in Cinecittà, “will not be held due to the impossibility of the Pope to be present,” reads the statement.
