Pope Francis charges against "rude dictatorship" from Nicaragua

(EFE).- Pope Francis described this Friday as a “rude dictatorship” to the regime of the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, after the sentence of a Nicaraguan bishop to 26 years and 4 months in prison. “With great respect, I have no choice but to think of an imbalance in the person he directs,” the pontiff declared.

“There we have an imprisoned bishop, a very serious, very capable man. He wanted to give his testimony and did not accept exile,” Francisco said, alluding to Rolando Álvarez, in an interview with the Argentine portal infobae from his residence in Santa Marta, in Vatican City, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his papacy.

The Nicaraguan bishop Rolando Álvarez, very critical of the Ortega government, was sentenced on February 10 to 26 years and 4 months in prison after being convicted of the crime of “treason”, in the midst of the crisis that lives the Central American country.

Álvarez refused to get on the plane that would take him, along with 222 other released Nicaraguan political opponents, to the United States, which provoked the fury of Ortega, who labeled him “arrogant”, “insane” and “energúmeno”.

“It is something that is outside of what we are experiencing, it is as if it were bringing the communist dictatorship of 1917 or the Hitlerite dictatorship of 1935”

“It is something that is outside of what we are experiencing, it is as if it were bringing the communist dictatorship of 1917 or the Hitlerite dictatorship of 1935, bringing the same ones here… They are a type of rude dictatorship. Or, to use a nice distinction of Argentina, guarangas”, affirmed the highest authority of the Catholic Church.

On February 21, the Nicaraguan president described the Church as a “mafia” and accused it of being undemocratic, for not allowing Catholics to elect the pope, cardinals, bishops, and priests by direct vote.

During the conversation, Francisco was also asked about the political situation in Venezuela and confirmed his confidence that there could be a regime change.

“It is the historical circumstances that are going to force them to change the way they have a dialogue. I think so, that is, I never close the door to possible solutions. On the contrary, I encourage them,” the pontiff signed.

In line with the Pope’s statements, the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Managua, Silvio José Báez Ortega, affirmed this Friday that Nicaragua is “a dictatorship of unbalanced, vulgar and anachronistic, in the Hitlerian and communist style.”

“Today Nero and Agrippina burn with these words of the Holy Father, with which we have to call the regime: unbalanced, communist and Hitlerian”

Báez celebrated today that Pope Francis has described the regime of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega as a “rude dictatorship.”

“He has told them what they are: a dictatorship of unbalanced, vulgar and anachronistic, in the Hitlerian and communist style,” the influential bishop, who has been out of Nicaragua for four years by decision of the Pope, said on Twitter for reasons of security.

“I think it is not the first time that (the Pope) sees them like this and it is not too late to say so,” added the hierarch, who on February 15 became the second member of the Nicaraguan Episcopal Conference to whom the authorities judicial authorities in his country stripped him of his nationality and he now resides in the United States.

“Today Nero and Agrippina burn with these words of the Holy Father, with which we have to call the regime: unbalanced, communist and Hitler of the 1930s,” said the Nicaraguan priest, also denationalized, Uriel Vallejos, alluding to President Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo.

“This is how the guaranga must be,” Edwing Román, another of the Nicaraguan priests declared stateless, “traitors of the homeland” and “fugitives from Justice” in Nicaragua, wrote on Twitter, illustrating his comment with a blonde doll with her eyes and mouth wide open in surprise.
