Santiago.- The Pope Francis appointed as the new bishop of the diocese of La Vega, Monsignor Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán, who had been serving as apostolic administrator of that religious demarcation since last December 2, 2023, when its owner, Monsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguez was appointed as metropolitan archbishop of this city.
The appointment of Monsignor Morel Diplán was confirmed by authorities of the Catholic Church in this city, who indicated that his inauguration will be announced in the next few hours.
In addition to being the apostolic administrator of the diocese of La Vega, Monsignor Morel Diplán served as auxiliary bishop of the local Archdiocese together with Monsignor Plinio Valentín Reynoso.
The newly appointed bishop of La Vega studied at the Pontifical Saint Thomas of Aquinas seminary and was ordained a priest on December 16, 1995.
In 2001, Monsignor Morel Diplán took a Vocational Pastoral course in Colombia and in 2007 he completed his degree at the Alfonsina Academy in Rome and was ordained auxiliary bishop of Santiago on February 25, 2017.
In his career he has held various positions within the Catholic Church, including parish priest, parochial vicar, rector of the San Pius

It is expected that from his new position, Monsignor Morel Diplán will continue promoting evangelization, dialogue and service to the community.
He was born on April 15, 1967 in La Vega, where he will now be its new bishop.
That diocese was led from 2015 to 2024 by Monsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguez, who, in addition to being metropolitan archbishop of Santiago, is the president of the Dominican Episcopate Conference.
