Before the alert issued by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Dike Channel (Cardique) about the presence of pollutants in the Ciénaga de Portonaito and Playa Blancathe mayor of Cartagena, Dumek Turbay, has announced the implementation of an action plan to address this problem and guarantee the safety of visitors.

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Channel of the Dike (Cardique) this Thursday issued an environmental alert after detecting high levels of fecal coliforms and the presence of solid waste in water samples taken in the Portonaito and Playa White Ciénaga, Insular Zone of Cartagena.
According to the results of the water quality tests, carried out on February 7, The environmental authority evidenced contamination that puts both ecosystems health at risk like that of people who frequent these bodies of water.
According to Cardique, the presence of fecal coliforms indicates the possible contamination with wastewater, while solid waste affects the quality of water and habitats of various species.

The environmental entity also reported a deterioration in the mangroves of the area, as well as the presence of tourist boats that could be contributing to ecosystem degradation. In addition, they identified wastewater discharges from housing near the ciénaga.
