Those of us who embrace politics have to honor the legacy of Raúl Alfonsín, of the Mothers and of the millions of people who fought to recover human rights. To strengthen democracy we have to work for equity and well-being for everyone.

For his part, Argentine ambassador to Spain and son of the late former president, Ricardo Alfonsín, recalled in dialogue with the Uncover Radio the electoral triumph of his father in 1983.
That way, He highlighted Alfonsín’s management in the face of “the amount of risk” that his government faced, and gave as an example the 1987 Holy Week carapintada uprising, led by Lieutenant Colonel Aldo Rico.
“How could we not say ‘Happy Easter’ given the amount of risk there was, if the men (who got up) left exhausted,” added Alfonsín.
And furthermore, he stressed that in that event “they could have killed the president, kidnapped him, they could have carried out a military coup, one sector of the armed forces could have clashed with the other.”
