The exchange of messages between the president Gustavo Petro and the governor of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro, generated a new national controversy after the president published on his X account a series of comments in which he suggests why the signing for the co-financing of the Commuter Train did not prosper.

In his first message, President Petro wrote: “He asked me: didn’t part of the Valle del Cauca bench sink the financing law, once and twice? For this reason, I must prioritize the access to the sea of the national production centers. The Buenaventura/Yumbo passenger and freight railway is moving forward. And its second phase will be to Urabá and the Caribbean, third phase: to Popayán.”

Given this statement, Governor Dilian Francisca Toro responded by pointing out that, if the President raises a “political revenge” against the people of Valle del Cauca, for the free and autonomous position of the Congress of the Republic.

“You propose a political revenge against the Vallecaucanos in the face of the free and autonomous position of the Congress of the Republic. You represent national unity and with your decisions and statements what you do is break it. You are failing to comply with the Vallecaucanos his campaign commitments using lies,” the president wrote.

President Petro did not take long to respond again through the same social network, stating that the true revenge against Valle del Cauca would be that of those who “They prevent at all costs the improvement of public health just so that the system that allows billions of pesos to be stolen is maintained. of the health of the people… The departure from Valle de Cauca by rail to the port of Buenaventura will boost the productive economy and the well-being of the entire Valle del Cauca people. Why reduce the large projects in Valle del Cauca?”

Faced with these words, the governor of Valle responded with an even more forceful message: “Gustavo, I know it is Saturday and your worst moments begin. I do not think it is serious that the Governor of the Vallecaucanos, citizens to whom you failed to fulfill your promise and commitmentthey also have to put up with their President distilling falsehoods and deepening hatred.

Don’t lie about the Pacific Railway, it doesn’t even have technical studies, you can’t finance it. I will continue working and my next announcement in this regard will be results; because, despite you and your anti-Vallecaucan stance, I want to tell you that the Valley Does Not Stop.” Furthermore, in a speech broadcast on a regional channel, Dilian Francisca Toro assured that, despite the refusal of the National Government to co-finance the Valle Commuter Train, She, along with the mayors of Cali and Jamundí, will continue with the project, considered strategic for the mobility and development of southwestern Colombia.

“He took away the opportunity of 5,000 jobs from the people of Jamundí, people who are suffering from violence. And he took away the opportunity for those people to have 5,000 jobs with the Commuter Train, or they want to take them away because we are going to continue working,” he added.

Likewise, he stated that the lack of support from the Government with this railway project adds to other “unfulfilled promises”, among which are: the Mulaló-Loboguerrero road and the Buenaventura drinking water access canal.

“These are unfulfilled promises of the National Government that not only affect the competitiveness of the department, but also the country. Today more than ever we need to be united. This is not a time to give up, it is time to continue fighting for what we believe very much in, we are going to continue working, looking for solutions, knocking on doors, because this dream does not stop here,” reaffirmed Dilian Francisca Toro.

The president recalled that the Train was conceived as a regional initiative that unites efforts of the public and private sectors, with the objective of transform the mobility of the Cali metropolitan area.

It is worth remembering that the first section between Cali and Jamundí, 23 kilometers and 21 stations, it would transport more than 160,000 passengers daily and would benefit a total of more than two million inhabitants, in addition to generating nearly 15,000 jobs.
