Political prisoners held in Rodeo I prison, in the city of Guatire in the state of Miranda, they shouted on Wednesday night to ask for help and report the beating that a guard allegedly inflicted on one of the detainees, whom they identified as Enzo Flores.
The Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners condemned the situation of “serious vulnerability” within the penitentiary center.
The alert arose when relatives of political prisoners, who have remained outside the prison for almost two months, They heard screams coming from inside the premises. According to what they said in a video posted on social media, at 11:20 at night they began to hear calls for help, so they went up a nearby hill to try to understand what was happening.
“Tonight, February 25, at 11:20 p.m., our relatives began to scream in Rodeo I. The information we were able to obtain is that inside here hThere is a person named Enzo Flores, who has been with a medical guardian for 16 months and was beaten, which caused bleeding,” said a family member.
They asked for the intervention of the Red Cross
In another video, relatives are heard stating: “The inmates are screaming, they are asking for help. They are asking for the intervention of the Red Cross for a certain Flores, who is torturing him. “We are unprotected.”
In addition to the alleged attack, family members reported harassment by officials of the Bolivarian National Guard when they tried to obtain information. “Officials came to persuade us, However, we did not leave the place,” they noted.
They also indicated that those who approached the entrance of the prison in search of an official version did not receive answers from the officers.
The Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners stated “deep concern about the opacity and cruel treatment reported” and demanded an immediate response from the prison authorities.
Likewise, he held the State responsible for the physical integrity of Enzo Flores and the rest of those deprived of liberty.
While the Amnesty Law advances
The complaint occurs in parallel to the application of the recently approved Amnesty Law. On the same Wednesday, the president of the parliamentary commission in charge of its implementation, Chavista deputy Jorge Arreaza, reported that 185 political prisoners already had full freedom.
Arreaza also detailed that 3,266 people with precautionary measures—such as periodic appearances before courts or a ban on leaving the country—received full freedoms.
As he explained, in the last hours the number of applications rose from more than 3,000 to 6,487.
The law, approved unanimously in the National Assembly, establishes that the courts must resolve requests within a maximum period of 15 days. However, Arreaza acknowledged that it is “impossible” for the rule to cover all cases.
To date, an official list of beneficiaries has not been published.
