HAVANA, Cuba – Cuban political prisoners Jose Antonio Pompa Lopez and Lazaro Mendoza Garciaheld in the Combinado del Este maximum security prison, are experiencing “serious health problems” and the authorities are not providing them with medical assistance.
“My husband José Antonio Pompa is having severe pain in his kidneys, pains he cannot bear and they are denying him medical assistance and in the case of Lázaro Mendoza he is bleeding from his nose and anus, but he is also suffering from spontaneous fainting spells” denounced Suarmi Hernández Vilar, wife of José Pompa López.
On August 2, the two opponents of the island’s regime were transferred to the Combinado del Este prison after a long stay in Villa Marista, the main headquarters of Cuban State Security, where they were accused of the crime of “propaganda against the constitutional order.”
In April, Cuban State Security forces arrested Pompa Lopez then drop off his son at school. After the arrest, He was transferred to Villa Marista and minutes later they carried out a search in his home where they seized a computer, two telephones, the tablet of his son, two memories flashamong other articles.
For its part, Mendoza Garcia He was arrested in mid-June after attending a second court date in Villa Marista. The following day, State Security also searched his home where they seized some clothing and paint.
The regime’s authorities are trying to link the two opponents to the Cuba Primero organization and accuse them of having spread propaganda, according to the testimony of their relatives.
“I fear for their lives because they are slowly being killed. They are sick and they are being denied medical care, they are being held accountable for their activism against the dictatorship,” Hernández Vilar said.
