The political prisoner Víctor Hugo Tinoco, 69 years old, former vice chancellor of Nicaragua in the 1980s and member of the Unamos political group, is in “serious health,” denounced the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh), through their social networks. The defenders warn that the life of the prisoner of conscience “is in danger” and demand that the Ortega regime keeps him unjustly imprisoned since June 13, 2021to release him “immediately”.
“The political prisoner Víctor Hugo Tinoco is in serious health. His life is in danger, we demand his immediate freedom from the Ortega Murillo regime,” Cenidh wrote on Twitter.
Human rights defenders released, along with the tweet, an audio in which a relative of Tinoco details some of the pre-existing ailments that the prisoner of conscience has, including: hypertension, heart rhythm disorders, which are often characterized by bradycardia; and leukopenia, which is a decrease in white blood cells and therefore a vulnerable body’s defense system.
In interview with CONFIDENTIALone of Tinoco’s relatives stated that, although they do not know if the situation of hypertension and leukopenia that the prisoner of conscience has presented since before he was imprisoned has worsened, they are concerned that the amount of medication that he is given has increased. They supply him for these ailments in El Chipote.
“They have him with duplicate doses, we sent an epicrisis about two months ago, a letter to Judicial Assistance, where we told them what he had and that it was not logical what they were giving him and the medications they wanted to give him, because he he is not a terrible hypertensive, but a stress hypertensive and if they are increasing the dose of the hypertension medication so much, then he may present the opposite, hypotension, he may faint and they would have to take him urgently to a hospital, ”he explained.
He added that the lack of information they have about Tinoco’s current health condition is due to the fact that “we have not seen him, we have not seen the tests they do, we have not had visits since last January and we are not allowed to talk to the doctor. that is following him in there.”
Tinoco’s family assures that during the last visit they had last January and during the trial, which was held against the political prisoner on February 11, they were able to see him and verify that “he was much underweight, at least ten more than she had already lost, she had a tremor in her hands and urinary incontinence”.
They demand a change in prison measure
The former deputy foreign minister of Nicaragua, also a former Sandinista guerrilla and FSLN dissident, was sentenced on February 21 to 13 years in prison and disqualification from public office, for the alleged commission of the crime of “undermining national integrity”.
His family has demanded that as an older adult and due to his pre-existing illnesses, which can worsen and make him more vulnerable to the spread of covid-19, he be given a change in prison measure, which allows him to be at home and with medical care. adequate.
Tinoco’s family introduced last January, with the support of a medical report, a detailed document on the political prisoner’s suffering to “request his release or change of precautionary measure to home for jail”, however they have not received a response.
“Because of his age he should be at home, in four months he will be 70 years old, and if they do not give him his immediate freedom, at least we want to have him at home, that we be allowed a doctor to come and assess him, because that leukopenia that he has predisposes him to infections and in this context of a pandemic he is more vulnerable, especially when they have not given him his booster dose of AstraZeneca, “said Tinoco’s relative.
