Havana Cuba. – From the Eastern Combineda maximum rigor penitentiary center located in Guanabacoa, the political prisoner Jorge Ernesto Pérez García denounces a series of irregularities in his criminal process.
Through a phone call, the member of the subversive group clandestinewho was imprisoned for painting busts of José Martí red, recalled that he was arrested by State Security on January 7, 2020 and transferred to Villa Marista, where he was instructed for the alleged crimes of “defamation of institutions and organizations and of the heroes and martyrs of a continuous nature” and “damage to cultural heritage assets” (Cause 61/2020).
On February 17 of the same year, the prisoner recounts, he and his companions were transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Operations Division of 100 and Aldabó for the alleged crime of drug trafficking.
However, he clarified, neither during the investigation nor during the trial were the instructors from Villa Marista or those from 100 and Aldabó able to provide evidence or present witnesses that the defendants had any connection to the alleged drug trafficking.
Pérez García, who has been a prisoner in the Combinado del Este since March 22, 2020, also indicated that of the crimes of defamation and damage he was only punished for the first, since in the case of the second it is considered fulfilled according to the time elapsed. in captivity, and insisted that his rights are being violated in accordance with the criminal enforcement law and criminal procedure.
In this sense, he has not received any educational treatment corresponding to his crime or legal situation, despite having requested it on several occasions.
In addition to the above, Pérez García emphasized that, although he has never been evaluated by a corresponding commission to grant him the regime change, it has been denied on two occasions. On the first occasion by the head of Unit 2, Lieutenant Colonel Yudiel Betancourt, due to the attack suffered by the prisoner at the hands of Lieutenant Adriel, second in command of Internal Order; and on the second opportunity he was denied by the prison director, Lieutenant Colonel Adonis Charchabal Mejías, alleging that he had not yet received a sentence from the first trial.
