Havana Cuba. — From the most rigorous prison in kilo 8located in the province of Camagüey, the political prisoner René Calderín Socarrás denounced repressive actions carried out against him by the authorities of that prison as punishment for having thrown proclamations in that facility on more than two occasions during the month of January.
Through a telephone conversation, the opponent and human rights activist was able to make it known that at noon on January 28 of this year he released more than 50 proclamations with various phrases and slogans against the Castro regime on the prison’s floor, where several inmates were at the time.
According to their statements, some of the contesting phrases that could be read on the leaflets were: “Long live human rights”, “Long live UNPACU”, “Long live José Daniel Ferrer García”, “Down with the dictatorship of Castro’s murderous henchmen”. , “Homeland and life”, “Eternal glory to the fallen martyrs murdered fighting against the Castro dictatorship”, “Eternal glory to Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas”, “Zapata lives”, among others.
The activist continued recounting that after having thrown the proclamations a common prisoner named Jesús Osmani Adán Pérez, a State Security collaborator, sent them to pick them up along with another inmate and delivered them to the director of the prison facility, Lieutenant Colonel Juan Miguel Sanchez Duarte. Once this was done, the collaborator of the repressive body proceeded to burn part of the pages in front of the cell where the political prisoner is being held, he added.
René Calderín Socarrás also highlighted that, in retaliation for the protest, a second lieutenant named Primelles, second in charge of Internal Order, appeared in his cell at around six in the afternoon of that same January 28, with the aim of carrying out a personal search against him, for which —the prisoner stressed— he was violently handcuffed while his belongings were searched for more sheets that he might have in his possession.
The political prisoner indicated that he is a member of the opposition movement Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), led by Jose Daniel Ferrer Garciaand added that other similar activities were carried out by him in the penitentiary facility on January 23 and 26.
